It may be the middle of summer, but here at Predator Ridge we’re already gearing up for winter’s most popular activities. A year-round golf resort community, winter provides a perfect opportunity to explore a different side of the Okanagan. So whether you like to get around by skis, sled, snowshoes or snowboard, Predator Ridge and the surrounding area is the perfect place to do just that.
SHRED SOME WINTER SLOPES
Who needs wheels when you have skis? Predator Ridge is located within a one to two hour’s drive from some of BC’s best ski resorts. To help you plan your perfect winter getaway, we’ve compiled a list of some of our favourites.
The Apex Mountain Resort is located in the South Okanagan near the city of Penticton. Approximately 2 hours by car from Predator Ridge, Ski Magazine called this charming resort, “one of the hidden gems of Canadian skiing.” Known for its light, dry, champagne powder, the resort is huddled against the base of Beaconsfield Mountain. With over 2000 feet of vertical adventure, 5 lifts, and 79 marked runs, this northeast facing mountain is the perfect spot for the intrepid snowboarder or skier to let their ski flag fly this winter.
Baldy Mt Ski Resort is located in the South Okanagan about an hour away from the city of Osoyoos. A little more than two and half hours by car from Predator Ridge, this family-friendly resort offers snowboarding, snowshoeing, sledding, tobogganing, and cross country. The resort’s “snow school” has classes for all ages as well as a variety of rentals that include snowboard packages for children, juniors and teens. One of the top ten highest ski resorts in BC, there are 360 acres of managed trail and 10km of cross-country and snowshoeing trails.
Big White Ski Resort is located in the Okanagan about 30 minutes’ drive from Kelowna. A little less than an hour and a half from Predator Ridge, Ski Canada called the resort’s Kids Centre “the best resort feature for kids in Canada.” This family-friendly destination offers a full menu of winter activities including ice-climbing, dog sledding, ice skating, miniature snowmobiles for kids, tubing, snowshoeing, fat biking and more. With a total elevation of 7,606 feet, 1,064 hectares of skiable area, and the largest mountain tube ride in North America (appropriately called the Mega SnowCoaster) this is a winter destination the whole family can enjoy.
Silver Star Mountain Resort is located a little over 20 km northeast of the city of Vernon in Silver Star Provincial Park. A 45-minute drive by car from Predator Ridge Resort, the area’s rounded mountain provides dependable slope conditions that are perfect for skiing and snowboarding. With 3,282 acres of terrain spread out over four mountain faces, Silver Star is British Columbia’s 3rd largest ski resort. The resort boasts 55 km of Nordic trails for cross-country skiing, along with a tube park, ice skating, snowmobile tours and sleigh rides.
